Frequently Asked Questions

  • What locations do you serve?

    • We currently serve Manhattan, parts of Brooklyn, Hoboken, and Jersey City. Please enter your zip code in our location finder in the “Locations” tab to confirm service

  • Do you treat children with special needs?

    • Yes, Dr. Lisa has years of experience with a wide variety of special needs including cerebral palsy, autism, cranio-facial syndromes, cardiac conditions, immuno-compromised states etc. An extra questionnaire may be sent to determine more about your child’s needs prior to the appointment and some medical clearances may be required prior to certain procedures.

  • What is included in a basic visit?

    • An examination, dental cleaning, X-rays, and fluoride treatment. The dental cleaning may or may not use a prophy handpiece and may or may not use a scaler. This is dependent on the needs of the child and decision made together with the family and Dr. Lisa. Fluoride treatment is recommended every 6 months based on American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommendations to help prevent cavities. Discussion about fluoride can be made at the teledentistry visit.

  • Do you take X-rays? Do you always take X-rays?

    • X-rays are not always needed. They are usually only taken when there is a possibility that a problem has arisen or can arise. Dr. Lisa will bring a mobile X-ray unit as well as X-ray aprons for both you and your child.

  • Do you treat cavities?

    • Yes, through the use of silver diamine fluoride(SDF) most cavities are able to be managed through bacterial control. In addition, the use of glass ionomer restoration and Hall crowns can be used to repair lost tooth structure. For more information, please visit the blog in the “Why” tab. If you would prefer your child to have their teeth repaired using the traditional approach, Dr. Lisa is able to perform the procedure in one of her offices or she can refer you to someone closer to your area.

  • Do you take out teeth?

    • Yes. Some teeth may be able to be extracted at a home visit. If your child needs sedation (such as nitrous oxide), however, it may be best to do the extraction in a dental office. Dr. Lisa can arrange to do the extraction in one of her offices or she can refer you to someone closer to your area. If the extraction is complicated, your child may be referred to an oral surgeon.

  • Do you use sedation/nitrous oxide?

    • We are unable to provide sedation or nitrous oxide at a home visit. If your child would benefit from such sedation, Dr. Lisa can either see your child in one of her offices or can refer you to an office closer to your area. In her offices Dr. Lisa offers nitrous oxide sedation or deep sedation with an anesthesiologist.

  • Do you provide second opinions?

    • If you are concerned about a treatment plan that another dentist has provided, Dr. Lisa is more than happy to review the X-rays and perform an exam to help determine if it absolutely necessary. The decision to accept treatment is a family decision and should be accepted by the whole family. In addition, treatment alone does not help solve a chronic disease such as cavities, it is important to make overall changes to ensure good oral health in the future.

  • What type of emergencies can you handle?

    • Trauma: if your child has fallen and either broken a tooth, caused a tooth to become loose, or pushed a tooth out of place

    • Tooth pain: if your child has broken a tooth or is experiencing pain from a cavity

    • Abscess: an infection related to a tooth

    • Mouth pain: sometimes children may have some pain that they are unable to locate. It may be due to an erupting tooth, a loose tooth, a canker sore, or various other issues

    • Any other questions or concerns you may have

  • What about other emergencies?

    • If your child is experiencing facial swelling or has any lacerations of the face, lip, etc we would recommend going to the emergency room. Dr. Lisa is more than happy to evaluate your child via teledentistry if you are unsure if such a trip is necessary.

  • Do you take insurance?

    • We accept FSA and HSA cards and will provide you with proper documentation to help facilitate reimbursement from your insurance.
